Wednesday, July 27, 2015 703-901-7144 PODERPAC Endorses Latina Candidates Running for U.S. Senate New, Restructured PAC Endorses Two Latina Senate Candidates for the 2016 Cycle Washington, DC – Today PODERPAC, the nation's only PAC focused on increasing the number of Latinas elected to the U.S. Congress, endorsed two Latinas running for the U.S. Senate. Catherine Cortez Masto | Nevada Loretta Sanchez | California Catherine Cortez Masto and Loretta Sanchez represent distinct opportunities to become the first-ever Latina Senators in the history of the U.S. Senate. Their campaigns act as a catalyst to directly address the lack of Latinas in the Senate and disproportionate makeup of Latinas in U.S. politics. “Latina Democrats currently hold only seven seats in Congress, and in the history of the U.S. Senate, there has never been a Latina Senator. It is time to break these glass ceilings,” said PODERPAC Founding Honorary Board Member Congresswoman Linda Sánchez. “I am so proud of these strong women who have the courage to run for elected office and will fight for American families." “These two candidates are exemplary members of our community who are not only recognized for being strong Latinas, they are devoted public servants with years of experience and the courage to challenge the status quo,” added Catherine Pino, cofounder of PODERPAC. “It is empowering to think that we may see the first Latina Senator in the history of this nation!” PODERPAC restructured this year to be the only PAC focused on increasing the number of Latinas elected to the U.S. Congress. It now provides Latina candidates running for Congress with early resources to help them launch winning campaigns. The PAC links candidates to a national fundraising network and helps build more effective campaign organizations as early in the race as possible. “The 2008 election cycle generated excitement for many Latinas across the country and crystalized the reality that women could strive for and reach the highest elected offices in our country,” said PODERPAC co-founder and Chair, Ingrid Duran. “That is the vision that created PODERPAC. Today, these two Latinas represent the best this country has to offer, embody change and represent a crucial step forward for not only Latinas everywhere, but for Americans seeking to break these glass ceilings.”
